City of Ashes

City of Ashes
Cassandra Clare
2008

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? Clary would love to spend more time with her best friend, Simon. But the Shadowhunters won't let her go--especially her handsome, infuriating newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down the rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil--and also her father. When the second of the Mortal Instruments is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor suspects Jace. Could Jace really be willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

-Hayz's Review-
I liked this book, but, ugh, why why do Clary and Jace have to be brother and sister? And Simon! Oh my gosh, I was shocked when Jace found him alive, and that he gave him blood, he did that for Clary right? Or was it so he could help with Valentine? I bet it was because he knew how Clary felt about him. I so want to read the third book, City of Glass, but only if it says somewhere in it that Jace and Clary aren't brother and sister, because they clearly like/love each other. Every time I imagine them together I get this repulsive feeling in the back of my throat saying "Do you love your brother like that?" Um, no! Gross! Lol, I give this book 4 stars because I liked it but it ending a little to quickly after the battle/war.

Leaving Paradise

Leaving Paradise
Simone Elkeles
2007

What happens when
the person who damged
your life ...

Caleb Becker spent the past year in juvenile detention.

Maggie Armstrong spent the past year in hospitals and physical therapy.

Two teens who were scarred one fateful night are going to have to face their greatest challenge yet--meeting up with each other again.

... becomes the person you
trust the most?

-Hayz's Review-
I really liked this book, for the most part. It definitely wasn't as good as her other book, Perfect Chemistry, but I still liked it. I wasn't to fond of the ending I must say, I know in the back of the book it says "Caleb and Maggie's story will continue in 2010" but ya, I didn't like the ending. But I liked the rest of the book so I will for sure read the second one when it comes out. And I look forward to see if Caleb and Maggie will be together.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Jane Austen & Seth Grahame-Smith
2009

"It is a truth universally acknowledged
that a zombie in possession of brains
must be in want of more brains."

So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton--and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers--and even more violent sparring on the blood soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read.

-Hayz's Review-
I liked this book a lot! It was so cute/funny/heartbreaking. Don't get me wrong it was really funny. Like when Elizabeth was at Rosings, and Lady Catherine asks her to show them some of her skills, it is exactly the same conversation as in Pride and Prejudice other than instead of talking about the piano they are talking about fighting. I couldn't help but laugh. And Darcy. . . is so dreamy, and ugh, he is irritating. Anyway, SPOILER, I hate, like seriously hate, Mr. Collins, but suicide, come on it was sad. Like Charlotte, oh my, I almost cried, but then how Mr. Collins hung himself, oh now that was so sad and heartbreaking. But overall I really liked this book.

Hush, Hush

Hush, Hush
Becca Fitzpatrick
2009

A SACRED OATH
A FALLEN ANGEL
A FORBIDDEN LOVE

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgement.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. she can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen--and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

* * *
Patch's eyes were black orbs. Taking in everything and giving away nothing. Not that I wanted to know more about Patch. Since I hadn't liked what I'd seen on the surface, I doubted I'd like what was lurking deep inside.
Only, this wasn't exactly true. I'd liked a lot of what I'd seen. Long, lean muscles down his arms, broad but relaxed shoulders, and a smile that was part playful, part seductive. I was in an uneasy alliance with myself, trying to ignore what had started to feel irresistible.
-from hush, hush

-Hayz's Review-
Five stars all the way! Seriously! This book was amazing! Spectacular! Really! I loved the ending! I also like the plot, I can honestly say I wasn't expecting Jules, really! Although I loved it! And Patch, where do I even begin? Hmm. . . . well he is basically a sexy fallen angel, need I say more? Nope! I think this is my new favorite book, nope, I lied. It IS my favorite book! Move over Edward! I found someone better!

City of Bones

City of Bones
Cassandra Clare
2007

When Clary Fray heads out tot the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder. Much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with odd markings. This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons-and keeping the odd werewolves and vampires in line. It's also her first meeting with gorgeous, golden-haired Jace. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in an ordinary mundane like Clary? And how did she suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

-Hayz's Review-
I really liked this book, that is until the ending. The ending was a completely. . . I don't know. Lets just say I didn't like it. I would suggest this book because well. . . if you don't know Jace then you are a poor deprived soul. If you like vampires, werewolfs, weapons, and totally hot guys then you should read this book!

Heartbreak River

Heartbreak River
Tricia Mills
2009

How many times can
one girl's heart get
broken?

Grayton River has already taken too much from Alex. First her father, who drowned a year ago in a tragic rafting accident. Then Sean, her boyfriend from last summer who she hasn't seen or heard from since her dad died.
Now Sean's back in Golden Blend, and Alex wants him more than ever. But can they connect again after what happened last summer? Can Alex risk her heart one more time?

-Hayz's Review-
This was a good book. I would suggest it if you want a cute love story, but if you don't then don't read this book. I really liked it because it wasn't a loser ending, like most books I have read lately.

Crystal Moon, World of Grayham

Crystal Moon World of Grayham
Phillip E. Jones
2008

Sam Goodrich, a strong, friendly, dark-haired man with brown eyes, lowered himself to the edge of the bed. He couldn't grasp everything he had just heard. It all weighed on his heart, suffocating his every thought. Even though he was brilliant-studying with some of the best scholars on Earth and surpassing even their knowledge-he now felt lost, struggling to stay focused.
"How could Earth possibly be destroyed?" he thought. Everything he loved, everything he had worked to build was gone. His family, his friends, and anything he identified with no longer existed.
Insanity rushed in to take control of him. But the firm, gentle and ever-so-powerful hands of a god reached out to touch his head and slowly... Sam drifted off to sleep.
"Rest My Child, Rest!"

-Hayz's Review-
First off- if you haven't read this book then I have no idea why I am talking to you! Seriously! This is one of the best books I have ever read! You honestly are a... a... lost soul if you haven't read it. Mr. Jones keeps your interest through the whole book! Crystal Moon World of Grayham is a wonderful book full of action, adventure, comedy and romance. I was dying when I reached the last page! And one of the best things about it is that this is book 1 of 6! Hell ya!

The Nature of Jade

The Nature of Jade
Deb Caletti
2007

I am not my illness. "Girl with Anxiety," "Trauma of the Week"-no. I hate stuff like that. Everyone, everyone has their issue. But the one thing my illness did make me realize is how necessary it is to ignore the dangers of living in order to live. And how much trouble you can get into if you can't.

Jade DeLuna is too young to die. She knows this, and yet she can't quite believe it, especially when the terrifying thoughts, loss of breath, and dizzy feelings come in. Since being diagnosed with Panic Disorder, she's trying her best to stay calm, and visiting the elephants at the zoo seems to help. That's why Jade keeps the live zoo webcam on in her room, and that's where she first sees the boy in the red jacket. A boy who stops to watch the elephants. A boy carrying a baby.
His name is Sebastian, and he is raising his son alone. Jade is drawn into Sebastian's cozy life with his son and his activist grandmother on their Seattle houseboat, and before she knows it, she's in love. With this boy who has lived through harder times than anyone she knows. This boy with a past.
Jade knows the situation is beyond complicated, but she hasn't felt this safe in a long time. She owes it all to Sebastian, her boy with a great heart. Her boy who is hiding a terrible secret. A secret that will force Jade to decide between what is right, and what feels right.

-Hayz's Review-
I thought this book was really good, once I got into it, which was like page 70. But after that the book got really good, until the ending. As you can tell I still have mixed feelings about this book.
So over all the book was just another book, no great but worth reading.
